ShimmyShimmy.com is a Secure Site |
|
See the padlock in the lower right corner of this page? This padlock is the hallmark
of a secure web page. You can click it to learn about the security certificate installed
on this site. |
| |
|
You might have noticed that the checkout pages do not have padlocks. |
|
There are no padlocks on those pages because the site is in frames. The main frame,
with the checkout procedure, is secure (it has an https://
header rather than just plain http://), but the left frames, with the menus, are not secure.
Because the whole page set (i.e. all the frames) are not secured, the padlock symbol does
not appear. If you right-click the main frame once you have started the checkout process
and choose Properties, you will see that you are connected with SSL 3.0 at 128 bit encryption
(High) and that the url is https://www.shimmyshimmy.com/cgi-bin/commerce.exe.
Thus, information sent from within this main frame, such as your payment and billing info,
is encrypted and secure. You can also click the Certificates button--this produces
the same information as clicking a padlock would produce. |
| |
|
The diagrams below may help you, and you might like to right-click this page as well to
verify its settings. |
| |
|
First, right-click within the main frame after you have started the checkout process.
Choose Properties. |
 |
|
Now verify that you are connected to https://www.shimmyshimmy.com/cgi-bin/commerce.exe
at 128 bit encryption. |
 |
|
You could also click the Certificates button in the Properties window to see the same
information that clicking the padlock on this page produces. I.e, clicking
the Certificates button = clicking a padlock!! |
